Strokes Swimming Instructor – Join Birmingham City Council as a swimming instructor.

Pay: Grade B – £28,598 – £34,434 pro rata (permanent).
Consultation grade – subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review.

Location: Parts at Handsworth Leisure Centre, Kingstanding Leisure Centre and Linden Road Leisure Centre.
Positions: Various part‑time roles available.

• Deliver structured swimming lessons in line with the “Strokes for Life” scheme.
• Work closely with the Site Manager and Swimming Co‑ordinator to develop and improve the swimming programme.
• Maintain strong relationships with parents and guardians to support learner progress and encourage retention.
• Validate and issue swimming badges and certificates.
• Keep up to date with best practices and attend relevant training and development sessions.
• Support the site during non‑lesson periods with alternative duties as required.

• Sound understanding of swimming instruction principles.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage with both children and adults.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and respond to enquiries.
• Commitment to training and continuous professional development.

• ASA/STA Level 2 Swimming Teacher Certificate.
• Recognised Lifesaving Qualification.
