Job DescriptionPosition Overview:
A Staff Coach shall prepare and deliver coaching sessions for the assigned teams, attend and coach all team game activities, create a year‑round training schedule, and identify tournaments and friendly games. The staff coach is expected to provide a professional customer‑service experience to the families associated within the club and hold a supervisory role to the Team Coaches. Additionally, the staff coach will participate as a mentor coach to volunteer coaches in the United community.
Job Functions
- Conduct practices two times a week (1.5 hours minimum) during the standard club season (January–May) and (August–November).
- Create a year‑round schedule (practices, games, tournaments).
- Attend all friendly, tournament, and league play games.
- Provide player feedback to families.
- Ensure a positive playing environment for all players (50% playing time).
- Recruit players to fill roster spots when needed.
- Manage team communications ensuring a high level of customer service.
- Serve as a mentor for AYSO Core Coaches (e‑mail support, one practice, and one game visit).
- Foster teamwork throughout the organization.
- Promote AYSO’s vision, mission, and six philosophies.
- Plan and manage internal communications and awareness of organizational needs, administration, and activities.
- Assist with special projects as directed by the Director of Coaching.
- Perform associated duties as assigned.
- Strong team‑management skills.
- Enthusiastic, aggressive, self‑starter, confident, professional, and solutions‑based problem‑solver.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills, written and oral.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with and maintain relationships with all levels of parents, players, coaching staff, directors, volunteers, vendors, and program partners.
- Ability to work independently, cooperatively, and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to initiate, coordinate, and organize schedules/tasks through to completion accurately and on time.
- Successfully pass a criminal background check and credit check.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Travel locally to practices, games, and tournaments.
- Vision acuity sufficient to analyze and assure accuracy of written documents.
- Speaking and hearing sufficient to conduct training sessions and match play.
The work environment is typical of a field, and sometimes a home office for communication and planning.
