The American Heart Association has an opportunity for a Program Manager, Data Science
. This position can be home-based.
The Program Manager develops and implements program operations encompassing business and scientific functions with accountability for budget planning, financial analysis, and operational excellence. Responsibilities include oversight of mission-critical initiatives such as a science-based AI Assessment Lab, National Surveillance Project, and Data Science grant portfolio, as well as accounting, budgeting, contracts, procurement, and legal compliance.

Responsibilities- Develop and implement management frameworks for Data Science Operations, including the AI Assessment Lab and National Surveillance Project, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and scientific excellence.
- Lead oversight of the data science grant portfolio, making recommendations for portfolio management, resource allocation, and performance optimization; establish and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders across the enterprise to drive data science initiatives and ensure cross‑functional integration.
- Direct end‑to‑end business operations including finance, procurement, vendor relations, and legal partnerships, exercising discretion to achieve organizational goals while maintaining compliance with American Heart Association standards.
- Lead strategic planning for annual budget development and execution, including burn‑rate analysis, financial modeling, process design, stakeholder training, and authorization of budget modifications aligned with organizational priorities.
- Synthesize complex financial and operational data to develop strategic recommendations and executive‑level reporting that informs leadership decision‑making.
- Architect strategic plans for webinar programs and educational initiatives, leading cross‑functional teams to ensure successful deployment and stakeholder engagement.
- Direct national volunteer nomination database operations and workflow optimization.
- Partner with the Guidelines & Statements VP to synthesize insights from Association professional members and healthcare stakeholders, translating diverse input into executive‑level recommendations for officer review and approval.
- Lead preparation for senior leadership reviews, exercising judgment in prioritizing publication timelines, determining executive attention requirements, and orchestrating cross‑functional communications with Scientific Publishing and key stakeholder teams.
- Establish and enforce embargo management protocols, maintaining compliance documentation, ensuring adherence to organizational policies, and directing enterprise‑wide communication strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- At least three (3) years of work experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication; able to connect with all levels of Association staff and with technology and non‑technology personnel.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced, multifaceted environment; excellent at working against deadlines and coordinating with others to produce final product.
- Effective time management and organization skills.
- Excellent in Excel, Smartsheet, and use of AI tools to work effectively.
- Experience supporting business and science operations.
- Experience with developing and managing process (and process change) documentation.
