This is a hybrid position based in Boston that requires 3 days per week of office-based work at our Boston office.
Owl Labs is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer to join our dynamic team. The SQA Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products through rigorous testing and validation processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in embedded software and IoT device testing. This role requires extensive experience in both manual and automated testing.
It involves working closely with the development team to identify issues early in the development cycle, create and execute test plans, automate the flows, and continuously improve the testing process.
- Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for embedded software and firmware components, along with the whole system.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and product managers, to understand product requirements and design effective test strategies.
- Perform functional, regression, integration, and performance testing of software applications.
- Design, create, and maintain automation frameworks for continuous integration and regression testing.
- Document and track defects, and provide detailed reports on test coverage and product quality. Provide feedback from a quality perspective.
- Create and enhance test automation frameworks deployable into established CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement using Python to create efficient and reusable test scripts with high-quality code and maintainability.
- Work closely with software developers to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience- 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance.
- Experience with testing methodologies, tools, and processes.
- Extensive knowledge and hands‑on experience in testing embedded software and firmware.
- Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) and software testing life cycle (STLC).
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and experience with automation frameworks.
- Proficiency in testing embedded software and IoT devices.
- Familiarity with testing tools such as Selenium, JIRA, Test Rail, or similar.
- Familiarity with wireless communication protocols (Bluetooth, Zigbee, Wi‑Fi, etc.).
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and IoT ecosystems (AWS IoT, Azure IoT, etc.) is a plus.
- Independent, self‑starter with an energetic can‑do attitude.
