Sr. Backend Software Engineer - Hypergrowth Conversational AI Startup

Location: San Francisco, CA (you can work from home 2x/week)

The company has raised $6 million in seed funding and has already reached a $2 million/year run rate
, with revenues growing 50% month over month
. The company is comprised of 8 people and 4 engineers, and is rapidly hiring.

You would be reporting to the CTO/Cofounder, who was previously a machine learning tech lead and manager at Google.

The company will pay a salary up to $250k
, plus equity which could be very lucrative.

• Primarily programming in Python. The company seeks language agnostic engineers who are able and interested to learn new technologies as needed.
• Designing and building highly scalable backend systems.
• The team is leaning towards using Go or Python on the backend, but they are open-minded and seek a language agnostic engineer who will help determine the best tech stack for the product and learn new technologies as needed.
• If you are interested in leadership, you could be leading 1-2 engineers in the next few months, and 5 engineers in the next year.
• Working at the cusp of what’s technically possible in applied AI.
• The low latency requirements of real-time speech means that the entire stack has to be lightning fast.
• Building AI bots to be rich, interactive, and lifelike.
• Designing and building scalable backend infrastructure to support our real-time communication platform.
• Designing, building, and maintaining a public API to be used by our partners.
• Designing, building, and maintaining integrations with 3rd party software such as CRMs, scheduling software, custom APIs, etc.
• Working closely with other backend engineers to improve our real-time communication platform.
• Leading and grow a team of more junior engineers.
• Working with the devops team to identify the best deployment and scaling strategies.
• Working with the front end engineers to support the user-facing web application.
• Working with the machine learning engineers to support custom ML features.

• At least 3 years (the more the better) of professional software engineering experience in high caliber engineering organizations.
• Expertise in backend software architecture.
• Experience building integrations with 3rd party software.
• Microservices.
• SQL / Databases.
