Senior Software Engineer (Real-Time Data)
About Scope3
Scope3 is the industry’s leading collaborative sustainability platform. By modeling the complex digital advertising supply chain, we help brands measure and dramatically reduce digital waste to reduce carbon emissions from advertising and increase the efficacy of advertising investment. This is an exceptional opportunity to build a company alongside great people and make a difference in one of the most important issues facing the planet: the climate crisis.
We’re a venture backed company of 65 folks distributed across the globe. We are fortunate to be led by an experienced leadership team, many of whom designed and engineered the digital advertising landscape as we know it today. The company secured $20M in Series B funding led by GV in Oct 2023 (additional investors include Venrock, Rucker Park, Room
40 Ventures, and Craft Ventures), and we are thrilled to be the recipient of an additional round of $25M in Oct 2024 . Scope3 has significant market traction with more than 150+ customers and is experiencing accelerated growth.
Scope3 is a fully remote company and largely asynchronous to provide flexible working hours and to operate globally, with concentrations in New York and Europe. At this time, we are hiring in Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany, and the United States.
About the Role
We are excited to add a Senior Software Engineer to our Real-Time Data Systems team, ideally based in a North American time zone. This individual contributor will help design and build the distributed systems that power our real-time data platform — ingesting, processing, and serving high-throughput data with low latency and high reliability.
Responsibilities:
Make architectural decisions that balance performance, scalability, maintainability, and cost
Drive initiatives to improve system reliability, observability, and operational excellence
Collaborate with data science, product, and infrastructure teams to deliver customer value
Establish best practices for code quality, testing, and system design in high-throughput environments
Qualifications:
5+ years building and scaling distributed systems in production
Strong proficiency in Golang with experience writing performance-sensitive services
Hands-on experience with OLAP databases such as Clickhouse, Big Query, or Snowflake
Experience designing systems that handle high throughput (e.g., event streams, streaming pipelines, or real-time analytics)
Experience operating systems in production (monitoring, debugging, incident response)
Strong focus on system maintainability, operational excellence, and technical debt management
Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and modern deployment practices
Comfort making architectural tradeoffs and explaining decisions clearly
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or Agent-to-Agent (A2A) communication
Familiarity with advertising technology data and metrics
Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and workflow orchestration systems (e.g., Temporal)
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $130k-$190k USD, $140k-$200k CAD.
These ranges span multiple location-based salary bands across the US and Canada. Candidates are aligned to a narrower range based on geographic market compensation data, and final offers reflect demonstrated skills, experience, and role expectations.
Details vary by location (USA/Canada), but all employees receive:
Health & wellness:
Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with significant employer contribution; short- and long-term disability coverage; health savings/flexible spending options
Retirement:
Employer-matched retirement savings plan (401(k) or RRSP)
Time off:
Generous paid time off, statutory holidays, and year-end office closure
Parental leave: 13 weeks fully paid (eligibility requirements apply)
Remote work:
Company-provided home office equipment, setup stipend, and access to WeWork spaces
Equity:
