OPG need 2 back-end developers to work with existing team of PHP Symfony 2 devs to update and maintain existing functionality and produce new features to ensure that a digital, public-facing service is iterated and improved via user first principles. Suppliers must be willing to provide evidence of essential criteria.

Who the specialist will work with Working alongside a product owner, user researcher, user interface expert and a senior front end developer, existing symfony 2 developers.
What the specialist will work on Work on Back-end development of the Sirius case management system.

This role is based primarily in Nottingham, but may involve some travel between Birmingham and London. Some co-location is required but flexible/home working options are available.
Working arrangements
On-site a minimum of 3 days a week, preferably in the Nottingham office, but with flexibility to work from other locations for the rest of the week including home-working.
Security clearance Baseline security clearance e.g. DBS or Disclosure Scotland will be required initially, but applicants must be willing to submit to National Security Clearance.
QualificationsSkills and experience
Essential skills and experience
- 4+ Years acting as a senior developer in a strong Object Orientated PHP environment
- Experience building server-side web applications and detailed knowledge of at least PHP and/or detailed understanding and experience of front-end web development (HTML/CSS/JS)
- Outstanding ability to develop efficient, highly optimised and clear code
- Understanding of and experience with a range of approaches to testing application code and systems for behaviour and performance
- An ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
- Experience working on technical projects within a team
- Working knowledge of unix-like operating systems such as Linux and/or Mac OS X
- Knowledge of the git version control system
- Ability to quickly research and learn new programming tools and techniques
Nice-to-have skills and experience
- Mentor and train other developers in a non-line management capacity
- Act as a “tech lead” on complex projects, providing support for product and delivery management and pragmatically weighing the complexities involved against the need to act
- Experience mentoring or helping colleagues optimise their code
- Knowledge of relational and non-relational database systems
- System administration and configuration management skills
- Experience presenting work at user groups and conferences
- Understanding of the use of Responsive Web Design
- Experience of handling large data sets and scaling their handling and storage
- Experience of designing and maintaining public HTTP APIs
- Experience of handling large data sets and scaling their handling and storage
- Experience of Continuous integration (preferably with Jenkins)
