Software Engineer II

Overview

Modea is seeking a talented, motivated Software Engineer with at least 2 years of experience to join our growing team. As a Software Engineer, you will be focused on using the latest software stacks and cloud technologies to design, implement, test, and continuously deliver new features and products with enterprise scale Content Management Systems (CMS).

We are digital consultants first, and our software engineers assume this same mentality in all aspects of their work. We tackle client projects as cross‑functional teams made up of software engineers, UX designers, project managers, strategists, and analysts. These teams work very closely with each other and the client to architect and build awesome, consumer‑grade experiences.

We're currently looking for someone passionate about solving problems with technology and ready to take their game to the next level by building great software. The right person for this role understands what it takes to build and deliver high‑quality software and has a strong understanding of software engineering principles. This is a full‑time position.

• CMS Web Experience – Understand the ins and outs of enterprise‑scale platforms such as Drupal, Word Press, Sitecore, or Optimizely, including content modelling, theming, custom module development, configuration management, search API, migrate API, etc. Knowledge of headless CMS architectures is a significant plus.
• Frontend Web Experience – Efficient at front‑end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, client‑side frameworks like React and Angular). Preference for candidates with proven experience using Next.js and Graph
  
  QL to build performant, data‑driven applications.
• Dev Ops Experience – Work in multiple environments (local, QA, UAT, production, etc.) with multiple hosts and source‑code hosts (Git Hub, Git Lab, Bitbucket, MS Dev Ops, etc.) and pipeline systems. Knowledge of Docker is a plus.
• Software Engineering Best Practices – Champion quality software delivery in every aspect, share what best practices mean and how to build software the right way.

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience with Drupal or Word Press.
• Great listener and communicator, both oral and written.
• Natural curiosity and love of problem solving.
• Consultant mentality in approaching problems.
• Client‑facing experience preferred.
• Team player, pleasant to work with.
• Passion for software development and sharing favorite blogs, authors, communities, and latest technology.
• Continuous improvement mindset in personal and team work.

Modeans may work at any location in Virginia, Tennessee, or North Carolina, unless otherwise required by job responsibilities. We offer modern offices located in Blacksburg, VA, with an indoor space of moderate temperatures and noise levels. Employees may choose fully‑office, fully‑remote, or hybrid work experiences and may occasionally travel for training or client visits. We provide tools to work at home as well as in the office.

Must remain in a stationary position during the duration of the workday, constantly operate a computer, converse and exchange information with clients and coworkers both in person and through a computer, and occasionally transport items of 10 lbs or less to and from the office.
