We are hiring a software architect for Canonical LXD and Micro Cloud. The role focuses on building clusters of compute with system containers or virtual machines, ensuring they run reliably and can be easily stood up on one to twenty servers. It requires expertise in distributed systems, virtualisation, container technology, networking and storage.

• Lead the architecture and design of LXD and Canonical Micro Cloud.
• Mentor and develop colleagues and support career progression.

• Review code produced by other engineers.
• Ensure the product is secure and performant.
• Represent Canonical and our communities with technical leadership.
• Work from home with global travel twice annually for company events.

• Exceptional academic record, undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM.
• Experience in Go and
  
  C.
• Experience with storage, networking and virtualization technologies.
• Experience with container technologies and concurrent, distributed systems.
• Technical leadership, team motivation, direction and pace.
• Well‑organized, self‑starting and able to deliver on schedule.
• Professional manner in interacting with colleagues, partners, and community.
• Professional written and spoken English; experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
• Conscientiousness and detail orientation, focusing on performance.

Home‑based position available in EMEA and the Americas.
