Merchant Engineering’s mission is to simplify commerce by delivering a one‑stop payment platform for all customer segments. As a Staff Software Development Manager, you will lead a team that builds customer‑facing touchpoints across Pay Pal, Braintree, and Hyperwallet for merchants on online and in‑store, web and mobile channels. You will design and build scalable solutions that support our merchant engagement strategy, particularly for the Partner & SMB segment.
YourDay‑to‑Day Responsibilities
- Own concrete outcomes by building and rolling out technical and functional products and features.
- Ensure all deliverables adhere to timelines, quality, and performance requirements.
- Build, nurture, and grow an engineering team to deliver relevant features while supporting their career development.
- Provide regular, constructive feedback, coaching, performance management, hiring, and talent development.
- Offer technical guidance and assistance to other software engineers.
- Apply best‑of‑class coding and design standards.
- Identify technical improvement areas and develop detailed business cases for new opportunities.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in software design, development, and architecture.
- Led a team of at least 8 engineers for more than 3 years.
- Applied software quality tools and processes successfully for your teams.
- Delivered projects using agile methodologies.
- Designed and implemented high‑traffic front‑end or back‑end services.
- Worked with SQL and No
SQL solutions. - Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and stakeholder management.
- Detail‑oriented and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexible and willing to learn new technologies and adapt quickly.
- Coached engineers, advocated good coding practices, and promoted continuous improvement.
- Collaborated effectively with remote teams across geographies and time zones.
- Preferred:
Experience in payments or finance‑related industry.
Pay Pal is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Compensation ranges from $152,500 to $262,350 annually, plus performance bonus, equity, and medical, dental, vision, and other benefits. For more details, visit Pay Pal Benefits.
Hybrid work model: 3 days in the office and 2 days remote (office or home). Pay Pal does not charge candidates any fees.
