The RoleLocation: While this position is posted in a specific location, all of Oyster’s positions are fully remote and you can work from home. Forever. To create the best experience for our new hire, this role requires you to be based within +0 / +4 UTC.
You’ll join our Platform Flow Engineering team, responsible for building and operating the foundation that allows Oyster engineers to ship software quickly, safely, and reliably ’ll own the systems that power our CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, observability, and developer experience, working closely with security and application engineers to keep Oyster fast, stable, and secure.
Key ResponsibilitiesBuild world-class developer experience
Design and maintain internal Ruby gems, tooling, and abstractions that reduce infrastructure complexity and enable engineers to focus on product work.
Own CI/CD from commit to production
Build, optimize, and operate fully automated, reliable, and cost-effective CI/CD pipelines for Rails applications, including browser-based test automation.
Run and evolve our cloud platform
Operate and improve our AWS + Heroku hybrid infrastructure using Terraform, ensuring high availability, scalability, security, and cost efficiency.
Increase reliability and confidence
Implement SRE best practices, observability, and incident workflows using tools such as Datadog and Sentry to reduce outages, accelerate recovery, and eliminate operational overhead.
Be a platform partner to engineering
Collaborate in public channels to diagnose issues, guide teams, and continuously improve how Oyster builds and runs software.
5+ years in software and platform engineering, with 2+ years building and maintaining Ruby on Rails applications and 4+ years owning Dev Ops, SRE, or infrastructure responsibilities in production environments at scale.
Proven experience running Ruby on Rails applications in production on AWS and Heroku.
Comfortable managing Linux systems and cloud infrastructure with Terraform or similar tools.
Skilled in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for Rails, including browser-based test automation (e.g., Capybara with Selenium or Cuprite).
Experienced in using Docker for both development and production environments.
Proficient with Datadog for monitoring and debugging, and Sentry (or equivalent) for exception tracking and incident triage.
Strong collaborator in incident response, openly diagnosing and resolving issues with engineering teams.
Bonus points
Strong belief in Platform Engineering: treating internal tooling as a product and Dev Ex as a key success metric.
Experience with Harness CI or Drone.
Automated Heroku management (Terraform or scripted workflows).
Built or founded a Rails-based startup.
Cross-platform automation for macOS and Linux developer environments.
TDD with Guard and related plugins.
Extensive experience in asynchronous, remote-first teams.
Experience running 50+ node infrastructure using Terraform or similar tooling.
A reliable home internet connection (or be able to get one)
