, you’ll shape the core of our platform with modern technologies and a high level of autonomy. As a Senior Software Engineer – Backend (m/f/d) at bex, you will be a key member of our engineering team, working together to efficiently solve the challenges of last-mile construction logistics. You will work with a high level of ownership – You build it, you run it – in a modern tech stack including Kotlin, Ktor, Exposed, Postgre

SQL, Kafka, Docker, and Google Cloud Platform
, supported by AI coding tools. You’ll work directly with stakeholder teams (e.g. Operations, Customer, Sales) to understand their needs and translate them into impactful technical solutions – without a dedicated product or Dev Ops layer in between. Your responsibilities include:

• Design, implement, and operate robust backend services and APIs that form the core of our digital platform.
• Develop and maintain an event-driven architecture based on Kafka and messaging patterns.
• Take ownership of architectural decisions, technical direction, and operational stability.
• Drive the usage of AI services within our platform.
• Ensure high code quality, clean architecture, and reliable processes.
• Work closely with stakeholder teams to translate business requirements into scalable backend solutions.

• Degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or equivalent qualification.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in software development with a strong focus on backend systems.
• Solid knowledge of modern JVM technologies – ideally Kotlin with Ktor or Spring Boot.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems such as Kafka

• Proficient with relational databases (e.g.
  PostgreSQL
  ).
• Understanding of clean API design, efficient data structures, and performance optimization.
• Enjoys direct collaboration with stakeholders and taking ownership of end-to-end product outcomes.
• First practical experiences with using AI tooling during development and with integrating AI services into a product.
• Strong problem-solving skills, collaborative mindset, and proactive attitude.
• Excellent German (B2) and English (C1) skills.
