Remote Senior Backend Developer

Managing personal finances is a chronically stressful problem. Nine out of ten Americans say nothing would make them feel as confident and secure as being on top of their personal finances, but most software out there today falls short.

Monarch is an early‑stage, funded Silicon Valley‑based startup. We are building the most comprehensive personal finance platform to help people improve their financial lives and achieve their goals.

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will own our Django backend implementation, helping us build the various extensions that people need to manage their personal finances – from budgeting and financial coaching to savings, investments, credit monitoring, and much more. You will help decide on our early architecture, think through product decisions and trade‑offs, and deliver robust code. You may occasionally dip into our React Native frontend or help establish our Dev Ops foundation – at a startup, we all wear multiple hats.

Our founding team consists of product‑driven, serial entrepreneurs with multiple exits. Our CEO was one of the original creators of  and brings a unique perspective on what consumers need in this market. Our Head of Engineering ran Quora’s Product Engineering group.

We are passionate about building a company (and brand) that both customers and employees love. We are seed‑funded by a top venture firm and a handful of prominent angels. Although we are based in the San Francisco Bay Area, we are open to remote applicants that live within a 3 hour time zone difference.
