Backend Engineering Team Manager
As a Backend Engineering Team Manager, you will lead and inspire a team of backend engineers in a dynamic, remote‑first environment. You will play a pivotal role in driving project execution, mentoring engineers, and fostering a collaborative culture focused on innovation and delivery excellence. Working closely with Product and Design teams, you will ensure roadmap commitments are met while guiding technical decision‑making and process improvements.

- Lead, mentor, and support a team of backend engineers, fostering professional development and a culture of coaching.
- Partner with senior leadership to align execution with team vision, strategy, and organizational goals.
- Oversee project delivery, setting estimates, tracking progress, and resolving blockers to ensure timely execution.
- Collaborate with Product and Design teams to deliver customer‑focused features iteratively.
- Own recruitment, hiring, and onboarding to strengthen and grow the engineering team.
- Promote knowledge sharing, documentation, and open communication across a globally distributed team.
- Contribute to process improvements and the adoption of best practices in a remote‑first work environment.
- 7+ years of experience in software development, including 2+ years in engineering leadership roles.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Strong backend development experience (e.g., Ruby, Python) with the ability to provide technical guidance.
- Experience with databases (Postgre
SQL preferred), caching systems (Redis, Memcached), and background processing frameworks (e.g., Sidekiq). - Knowledge of software engineering best practices, testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of scalability, reliability, observability, and security principles.
- Proven ability to lead teams effectively, resolve blockers, and ensure delivery commitments are met.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
