About

The Role

As Parent Participation Practitioner, you will help strengthen the Camden Parent Carer Forum by supporting communication between families and local services. You will play a key role in encouraging parent participation, helping families share their experiences, and ensuring these insights help shape local policies and services for children and young people with SEND.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build strong relationships with families of children and young people with disabilities in Camden.
  • Support consultation activities with parents and carers to inform local service development.
  • Represent the Parent Carer Forum at meetings with the local authority and key stakeholders.
  • Champion co-production, ensuring families are actively involved in shaping services.

  • Support the design and distribution of the monthly Forum newsletter.
  • Assist with managing the Forum’s social media accounts and online communications.
  • Carry out outreach to encourage wider participation in the Forum.
  • Empower parents and carers to engage in consultations and service planning.
  • Keep up to date with services available to families of children with disabilities.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation of the Forum’s impact.
  • Attend supervision, team meetings, conferences and relevant training.

You may also be asked to contribute to special projects or working groups as opportunities arise.

Essentials
  • Lived experience as a parent carer of a child or young person with SEND in Camden.
  • Understanding of the role and purpose of Parent Carer Forums.
  • Good understanding of disability and its impact on families.
  • Commitment to partnership working with parents, carers and professionals.
  • Experience facilitating consultations or organising information sessions.
  • Knowledge of co-production principles.
  • Ability to lead or support parent support groups.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to gather, analyse and share information effectively.
  • Good report writing and analytical skills.
  • IT skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Sensitivity and discretion when handling confidential information.
Desirable
  • Experience supporting families of children with disabilities.
  • Understanding of challenges faced by families of children with SEND.
  • Experience working in diverse and multicultural communities.
  • Knowledge of multi-agency working.
