Family Conciliation and Evaluation Specialist

Summary

King County Superior Court is accepting applications for one full‑time, regular Family Conciliation and Evaluation Specialist position.

The responsibilities of this professional‑level position include performing clinical evaluations, interviewing parties, and writing comprehensive reports regarding family law matters. The incumbent educates, facilitates, assesses, and provides resources to assist parties in disputed family law cases. This position assists the court by collecting information that promotes beneficial outcomes for children and families.

This position is open to all qualified applicants.

Primary work location is the King County Maleng Regional Justice Center Courthouse in Kent, Washington. The incumbent may be required to work at other court facilities. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of onsite and remote work. Employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance of their King County Superior Court worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

This is a full‑time position working 35 hours per week. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Variations from those hours may occur, including early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed. The position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

• Provide clinical evaluation to include case‑specific and often complex analyses and make recommendations regarding a full parenting plan and ongoing treatment, the need for protective orders, or immediate services.
• Interview parties involved in parenting plans, guardianship cases, modifications, relocations, family law litigations, domestic violence assessments, and emancipation petitions.
• Provide extensive written reports to the parties and to the court in accordance with federal and state requirements.
• Make recommendations to the court regarding family law and civil protection order petitions being filed.
• Facilitate and mediate discussions and resolution of contested parenting plans with family law litigants.
• Confirm all consents to relinquishment of parental rights in independent adoptions.
• Serve as an expert witness in court and in depositions regarding Parenting Plans, Risk Assessments, and Domestic Violence Assessments.
• Obtain information from other agencies to assist the court in determining the best interest of the children at issue in family law and civil protection order cases.
• Teach and develop curriculum for parent seminars and Continuing Education family law classes.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature and level.

Master's degree in Social Work or in a related field, and three years’ postgraduate experience in a related field or clinical area of assignment. Experience in case management and general clinical expertise in family dynamics, domestic violence, counseling, evaluation and assessment techniques is desirable.
