Class: ANALYST I
Salary: $3,861.00 – $6,276.00 per month (dependent on experience and alternate ranges). 12‑month limited term, potential extension up to 24 months or conversion to permanent.

Location:

Irvine, Orange County (In‑office with up to 50% travel to Glendale, Riverside, and San Diego MSCs).

Work schedule:

Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑5:00 pm. Hybrid work options available; in‑office attendance required for up to 50% of the term.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Member Service Center Manager, Pension Program Manager II, the Benefits Specialist performs duties of average difficulty in the following areas:
- Provide retirement benefits planning support to CalSTRS members, employers, and staff.
- Resolve member and internal service inquiries with discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
- Perform calculations related to retirement benefits, averages, decimals, formulas, and percentages.
- Research, analyze, and interpret laws and policies affecting member benefits.
- Maintain accurate records and confidential information.

Qualifications
  • Basic mathematical comprehension and experience with calculations (averages, decimals, formulas, percentages).
  • Ability to travel overnight for trainings and meetings.
  • Experience delivering information to audiences of various sizes.
  • Experience providing customer service through a variety of channels.
  • Flexible work schedule to support member services, including occasional after‑hours work.
  • Research, analysis, and interpretation of laws and policies.
  • Handling confidential information with integrity.
  • Providing clear feedback and explaining complex information to non‑technical audiences.
Working Conditions & Requirements

All employees are state employees and subject to California employment taxes and with holdings. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship and must meet the current Analyst I examination requirement. Background investigation, Personal Trading Program, and disclosure requirements apply.
