Job Description & How to Apply Below

Central Virginia Community Justice is seeking a part-time Restorative Justice Coordinator who will guide RJ cases and take the lead on casework logistics & documentation while collaborating with co-facilitators. The Coordinator will not only be well-versed in restorative justice facilitation, but also have strong skills in organization, written and verbal communication, and adhering to protocols to promote consistent services.

RJ cases start with groundwork meetings in which co-facilitators meet with each person involved in the harm individually to work through what happened, the impacts, and the needs moving forward to foster safety and healing. Co-facilitators also guide face‑to‑face conferences where participants create an agreement and a plan for follow‑through. Co‑facilitators accompany participants throughout follow‑through until the agreement is fulfilled. The co‑facilitators’ role is to guide–not direct–the process.

Co‑facilitators trust in the wisdom of the participants and seek to draw that out.

Mission: CVCJ provides a brave space for those involved in harm to lead their own accountability and healing. We facilitate restorative conferences to divert cases away from the criminal system, as well as to repair harms outside of the system. Through dialogue, those impacted by harm have voice and agency to address their needs, and those responsible for harm can take accountability through actions and acknowledgement.

Job Duties
  • Facilitate restorative justice cases. The RJ Coordinator will be assigned to most of CVCJ’s cases (paired with a co‑facilitator). The RJ Coordinator will facilitate restorative justice cases involving youth and adults, all types of harm/crime, and referred from the criminal legal system or community, and will work with all participant populations.
  • Collaborate with co‑facilitator for in‑person, virtual, and phone meetings with harmed and responsible individuals.
  • Keep prompt and accurate online case log notes.
  • Manage case logistics, including scheduling meetings, securing meeting locations, and completing documentation.
  • Collaborate proactively with co‑workers over email, virtually, and in‑person about case strategy and decisions.
  • Attend meetings with Program Director as scheduled, as well as Facilitator meetings.
  • Attend professional development training to remain current with RJ skills and learning.

  • Previous training or experience with trauma‑informed care, active listening, nonviolent communication, or other dialogue techniques (preferred).
