At Legacy Adoption Services, we empower those facing unplanned or challenging pregnancies to explore their options with compassion and care, ultimately helping them feel in control of their unique situations.
Purpose
As an Adoption Counselor at Legacy, you will walk alongside expectant mothers and families during one of the most emotionally complex times of their lives. From the early stages of pregnancy to delivery and beyond, you’ll provide personalized counseling and support to help clients craft an adoption plan that works best for them and their baby.
Responsibilities- Personalized Care: Assess each client’s needs and create customized plans of care, managing their overall well-being and satisfaction during their time with the agency.
- Adoption Guidance: Offer ongoing emotional counseling and practical guidance through the adoption process, addressing any challenges or concerns along the way.
- Hospital Support: Be there for clients during delivery and placement, offering reassurance and helping them create positive, manageable outcomes.
- Detailed Documentation: Maintain thorough notes of all client interactions, ensuring accuracy and professionalism in all records.
- Client Transportation and Appointments: Accompany clients to medical visits or community resource appointments while ensuring their needs are met.
- Assessments for Adoption Families: Conduct interviews and home assessments for prospective adoptive families pre-placement and provide follow-up assessments post-placement, ultimately preparing court reports.
- Build Community Partnerships: Develop and nurture relationships with physicians, schools, pregnancy centers, caseworkers, discharge planners, and other referral sources.
- Raise Awareness: Deliver engaging educational training to community partners to modernize and promote adoption’s role in family planning.
- Responsive and Flexible Work: Adjust your schedule to meet client needs, including evening and weekend appointments and occasional overnight on-call hours for hospital deliveries.
We are looking for a compassionate, motivated, and versatile individual who can adapt to the needs of our clients, work independently, and represent Legacy Adoption Services with professionalism and care.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in a human services field and at least 2 years of related experience (CPS caseworker, residential care, or adoption).
- Experience working in the adoption field or with a licensed child-placing agency preferred. A Master’s Degree is a big plus!
- A strong passion for helping others and a personal connection to adoption is a bonus.
- The ability to foster meaningful, professional relationships with individuals from diverse and complex backgrounds.
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, including comfort with public speaking and training delivery.
- Willingness to work with clients in a broad range of settings, including homes, hospitals, shelters, pregnancy centers, and more.
- A self-motivated and efficient professional with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently.
- Reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license and car insurance.
- Ability to pass criminal background and drug screening.

Work LocationThis hybrid role requires flexibility and includes a mix of remote work, meetings at our main office in North Richland Hills, TX, and travel to various sites across Texas, including client homes, hospitals, and community partner offices.
