Due to retirement, we have a vacancy for a Transport Assessor to join the Passenger Transport Service within the Assisted Transport Service. This is a busy service providing school transport to eligible mainstream children and children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities.

About the Role

As Transport Assessor, you will work primarily in the Risk Assessment team, assessing the transport requirements of children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. The successful candidate will be motivated and flexible to meet the various team commitments. You will be well organized and able to prioritise your work, meet tight deadlines and work as part of a team.

Your focus will be:

  • To complete and review individual risk assessments to determine suitable transport arrangements either for home to school or day care services
  • Provide risk assessment advice to colleagues across the Assisted Transport Service to assist service delivery
  • Liaise with parents/carers, colleagues, operators, schools and other relevant stakeholders to support the safe and efficient delivery of home to school transport
  • Support the delivery of in-person training to external transport providers
  • To handover specialist equipment where this is specified in a child’s risk assessment, to ensure transport providers are competent in its use.
  • You will be expected to meet service commitments including regular working at County Hall, conducting visits to schools (usually at the start and end of the school day), and delivering in person training either at County Hall or other venues across Leicestershire.
About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Experience of gathering and interpreting information from different sources to produce written reports and correspondence, with excellent attention to detail
  • Experience and confidence in using a range of IT packages including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database packages
  • Knowledge or experience of special educational needs and disabilities in the context of providing a service
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to problem solve and achieve suitable outcomes for children and adults with SEND, whilst also working to tight deadlines
  • Possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise assertively, empathetically and calmly with members of the public including parents and carers
  • The ability to travel to schools and venues across Leicestershire as required

You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.

In addition, we also expect you to share our commitment to our values and will ask you to evidence when you have demonstrated them as part of the selection process.

Reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with a disability.
