Founded in 1933, IRC works in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities, including Northern California where it has resettled nearly 60,000 clients. The IRC in Oakland leads the Bright Futures project, providing psychosocial support to school‑aged youth and young adults in Contra Costa County.

Job Overview

The H&W Caseworker works under IRC Oakland’s newly launched Bright Futures project, coordinating services to support school‑aged youth and their families. The role includes implementing psychosocial programming, facilitating workshops, support groups, community events, and providing outreach, education, mental‑health screening, and referral services.

Major Responsibilities

  • Work with school-aged youth and their families to identify needs, create service plans, and ensure progress through individualized service plans.
  • Support school accommodations and programs, conduct mental health screenings, provide culturally and linguistically appropriate referrals, and collaborate with parents, teachers, and school counselors.
  • Navigate community resources, assist with school appointments, and provide external referrals to public benefits and community partners.
  • Create, plan, and implement creative workshop curricula focused on mental and emotional well‑being, stress management, community support, and academic success.
  • Organize young adult art‑based events for therapy, psychosocial support, and community connection.
  • Conduct outreach to refugee, immigrant, and asylee communities to increase programming participation.
  • Develop relationships with local schools, districts, educational non‑profits, and other stakeholders to ensure clients access relevant services.
  • Travel regularly throughout the service‑delivery area for school visits, workshops, agency visits, and home visits.
  • Maintain case file documentation, clear case notes, and internal tracking systems.
  • Participate in program meetings, staff development, trauma‑informed care trainings, and fully engage as a team member.
  • Comply with all IRC policies, procedures, and protocols, and maintain quality assurance standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social work, medical training, child development, education, psychology, sociology, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of professional experience in human services, providing direct services to underserved communities; experience with children, families, and/or child welfare.
  • Experience in multicultural settings and strong communication skills with diverse populations.
  • Comfortable collaborating with government agencies, educational systems, and community providers.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate events and workshops independently and within a team.
  • Self‑starter with strong problem‑solving, multitasking, and time‑management skills.
  • Strong digital literacy, including Microsoft Office and keyboard proficiency.
  • Prior experience with web‑based CRM and case‑management systems preferred.
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize large amounts of information accurately.
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration across IRC’s programs.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance, and ability to travel regularly in the service‑delivery area.

Work Environment
