STEP AHEAD SERVICES

We are looking for 4‑day shift workers who can work Monday to Sunday, 7 am to 3 pm or 2 :30 pm to 10 :30 pm.

Reporting To: Manager/Supervisor

Due to the nature of the work this post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exemptions) Order 1986 and the Home Office procedures on disclosures of information concerning convictions also applies.

Prior to employment, Step Ahead Services will require confirmation that your National Insurance number is correct and the original certificates for all qualifications referred to in your application from (if appropriate).

Main Purpose of the Job

To provide emotional and practical support to young people who are looked after by the local authority. This includes a range of practical tasks, assisting with assessment and casework processes, providing advice, support and guidance, and helping empower young people to take more control over their lives and become independent.

Summary of Responsibilities and Personal Duties
  • Shift duties – day shifts – 7 am to 3 pm or 2 :30 pm to 10 :30 pm.
  • Support young people with cleaning, tidying, laundry, etc., and checking health and safety of premises.
  • Advise on health and safety issues.
  • Provide practical and emotional support to young people.
  • Monitor the young person’s progress.
  • Help empower young people.
  • Provide advice to young people and relevant information on resources and refer them when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and relevant information on a young person on a weekly basis and provide monthly reports to the social worker/Local Authority and any reports needed for court, etc.
  • Identify the need for involvement with other services and agencies.
  • Regularly liaise with the social worker/Local Authority and other agencies.
  • Undertake home visits to families if appropriate.
  • Assist social workers with specific tasks in relation to their casework/care plan (e.g., attending court, supervising contact between young person and family, assistance with DSS, etc.).
  • Regularly advise the Manager/Supervisor of SAS of developments and changes in the cases as needed.
  • Attend meetings related to the young person as required.
  • Contribute with the whole team to ensure that people from ethnic and other minorities are not discriminated against in the access to services and receive services appropriate to their needs.
  • Attend, contribute and participate fully in supervision.
  • Advocate on behalf of young people.
  • Work flexibly and creatively with young people.
  • Organise own work and meet deadlines.
  • Support young people into training/education.
  • Notify Manager of any concerns regarding the young person's progress.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities.
  • Establish effective interpersonal relationships with a range of people (e.g., young people professionals).
  • Safeguard the young person's well‑being and raise any concerns in relation to safeguarding to Management immediately.
  • Work actively on the young person's care plan and achieve good outcomes.
  • Promote the young person's self‑esteem and confidence.
  • Work on a shift basis if required Monday to Sunday with sleep‑in duties.
