Schedule Code Description: 12 month probationary period for new hires and re-hires.

Location: This position is open to remote work/teleworking options. The employee will be required to be in the office 2 days during the work week at the DAAS Intake Office at 288 N 1460 W, Salt Lake City, UT. The employee may also be required to attend events and meetings at the Intake Office on days other than the 2 days he/she is required to be in the office.

Job Description
If you feel strongly about advocacy for vulnerable adults, this job is for you!!! The Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS), within the Department of Health and Human Services, is looking for an APS Intake Worker (Caseworker I/II) for Adult Protective Services, to be the first line of contact with the public through the phone system. This position is dedicated to assessing referrals relating to abuse, neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable adults, along with making referrals to partnering agencies when appropriate.

You may have to engage in conversations with upset, frustrated, or angry individuals.
This position will be filled as a Caseworker I or Caseworker II depending upon the qualifications of the applicant.

Caseworker I ($18.77 - $28.16): A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Family & Human Development, Criminal Justice, Gerontology or four years of professional work experience in a closely related field is preferred. You will also qualify if you have at least 4 years of paid employment or volunteering working with older adults and/or people with disabilities (vulnerable adults). This employee will operate under close and regularly provided professional supervision.

Caseworker II ($20.89 - $31.41): a Social Service Worker license or a closely related license in the State of Utah is preferred. This employee will be fully trained and exercise independent judgment and discretion and assess human service needs for elderly adults and/or people with disabilities.

Principal Duties
An APS Intake Worker (Caseworker I/II):
  • deals with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism
  • operates a multi-line telephone system
  • uses common computer programs and is proficient in spelling, grammar, and typing
  • reads and assesses different forms of electronic information to make sound decisions regarding abuse, neglect, and exploitation
Preference

Preference may be given to candidates who have:
  • At least 6 months employment as a case manager or investigator
  • Experience investigating abuse, exploitation, and/or neglect, or related areas
