Job Description – Accessibility & Inclusion Worker (Game Changer)

Hours:
25 hours per week (worked over 5 days, Monday–Friday hours 11:00 till 16:00)
Contract:
Fixed-term, 6 months initially (with intention to extend subject to funding)
Salary: £14 per hour (FTE £27,300 per annum prorata)
Reporting to:
Director – Operations (Alex Roland & Becky)

Collecting Volunteers and trainee assistants (non-employed)
Purpose of the Role
Game Changer is our inclusive social gaming programme for autistic people and adults with learning disabilities across Somerset. Game Changer is about connection, confidence, and joy. We use modern and retro gaming to create welcoming spaces where people feel safe, included, and valued.
The Accessibility & Inclusion Worker will play a central role in making Game Changer sessions fully accessible and inclusive for adult autistic people and adults with learning disabilities. The postholder will support weekly sessions, remove sensory and access barriers, provide one-to-one support where necessary, and help embed inclusive practice across all delivery sites. The role will also support Love Community CIC to transition from founder-led delivery to a more sustainable, staff-supported model.
ResponsibilitiesSession Delivery & Participant Support
- Set up sessions and support weekly Game Changer sessions across four existing Somerset locations. This involves physical lifting and setting up game consoles and packing equipment away at the end of each session.
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for participants with sensory, communication or access needs.
- Set up and manage quiet spaces, sensory equipment, and adaptive gaming resources.
- Support participants and carers to feel safe, welcomed, and included within sessions.
- Responsible for the safe collection and transport of volunteers and trainee assistants (non-employed) to and from Game Changer sessions, in accordance with safeguarding procedures.
Accessibility & Inclusion
- Lead on practical accessibility improvements, including signage, Easy Read materials, and venue adaptations.
- Identify and respond to sensory triggers (noise, lighting, crowding) in collaboration with participants.
- Ensure sessions reflect best practice in inclusion, dignity, and person-centred support.
- Be flexible and prepared to be involved in setting up a sustainable project for the future.
- Support and mentor volunteers, including autistic volunteers and adults with learning disabilities.
- Transport volunteers to and from Game Changer sessions.
- Assist with life-skills activities within sessions.
- Encourage positive progression into volunteering, education, or employment where appropriate.
- This role does not involve regulated personal care but focuses on social inclusion, accessibility, and practical support within community sessions.
Partnership Working
- Work collaboratively with delivery partners including Somerset Libraries, Somerset Film, and local colleges.
- Liaise with carers, referees, and community organisations.
- Support outreach and engagement to widen participation.
Monitoring, Reporting & Sustainability
- Record attendance feedback, and basic monitoring data.
- Contribute to reports required by funders and the Love Community CIC board.
- Support directors by freeing up operational capacity, enabling senior staff to focus on sustainability development (sponsorship, trainee pathways, partnerships).
- Work in line with Love Community CIC’s Safeguarding Policy at all times.
- Report any safeguarding concerns promptly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Undertake safeguarding training as required.
- The role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
- Handle participant information in line with GDPR and Love Community CIC’s data protection policies, always maintaining confidentiality.
- Experience of supporting autistic people and/or adults with learning disabilities.
- Understanding of inclusion, accessibility, and person-centred support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
