Overview
Provide crisis intervention, information and referral and safety planning through a 24-hour hotline. Provide general shelter support and assistance to direct service staff in providing services to shelter residents.
PositionsCurrently there are three part-time positions with no benefits. Working hours are:
- Saturday Sunday 7:00 a.m.
- 3:00 p.m. - Saturday Sunday 10:00 a.m.
- 6:00 p.m. - Saturday Sunday 11:00 p.m.
- 7:00 a.m.
All positions are located at the shelter and do not offer remote work. Employees must be flexible, as they may be required to work holidays on an as-needed basis. The position starts at $15.62 per hour.
Responsibilities- Assist in providing new residents with transportation to shelter.
- Assist in answering hotline calls, determining resident eligibility for service, and making arrangements for new resident admission to shelter.
- Assist in providing new resident orientation to shelter facility and shelter guidelines.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and sanitary shelter environment.
- Establish positive relationships with residents that foster empowerment.
- Provide appropriate community resources, referrals, and advocacy to residents in coordination with case management staff.
- In coordination with case management staff, provide follow-up services to residents departing from shelter.
- Participate in special projects such as special events, field trips, and assistance with coordinating and putting away donations.
- Accurately collect and input data into database system.
- Provide staff coverage on weekends.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Associate's Degree in social sciences, psychology, or a related field, or equivalent two years of experience working with people in crisis.
Selection and AppointmentA selection committee evaluates each applicant’s education and experience, supplemental questions, reference findings, and additional relevant information. Only applicants who possess the most job-related qualifications are invited to interview. Interviews are graded, and a qualifying score of 70 or more is required for appointment. After the interview, selected candidates receive instructions to complete a Conviction Questionnaire within three days. The top five candidates are certified to the Department Director/appointing authority for a final decision.
Conditional offers require a mandatory urinalysis for drug screening, covered by the County.
