Capital Railroad Services is hiring motivated, hardworking individuals ready to take their careers to new heights—literally. As a Traveling Timber Bridge Preservation Technician, you’ll be part of a close-knit field crew traveling across the country to preserve critical infrastructure. This hands‑on, outdoor position is ideal for those who enjoy physical work, adventure, and steady growth opportunities. All training, tools, PPE, equipment, and company transportation are provided.
Responsibilities- Excavate ground lines around timber bridge components using hand tools (D-handle spade, sharpshooter, crowbar, etc.)
- Apply wood preservative treatments and install plugs using a hammer
- Drill holes in timber using ½" drill powered by a generator
- Record bridge conditions and inspection notes accurately
- Walk on uneven ground and steep slopes around job sites
- Learn and safely use lineman gear for climbing bridge structures
- Maintain safety protocols while working at heights of up to 300'
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions as part of a traveling crew
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with favorable driving record
- Physical strength and stamina; ability to lift up to 70 lbs and work long shifts
- Comfortable with heights and working in remote, elevated environments
- Experience in physical outdoor labor (construction, landscaping, ranching, farming, military, etc.)
- Ability to pass gas mask, respirator, fall protection, and lead exposure training
Preferred:
- Limited Class A CDL (no air brakes) preferred and eligible for premium rate
- Previous experience in timber work, bridge repair, or utility labor
