Duties- Perform security guard duties in accordance with regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage, and espionage.
- Enforce the security regulations of the installation.
- Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation.
- Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics, automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
- Admit persons, deny entry or arrange for escorts as appropriate.
- Conduct vehicle searches and inspections.
- Conduct foot or vehicle patrol of perimeters, roadways, parking, and other high‑traffic areas.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- Shift work required; hours may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Position may be designated as Mission Essential depending on location.
- Overtime may be required as directed and subject to recall for emergency periods.
- Must pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
- Must meet Individual Reliability Program requirements.
- Must undergo mandatory drug testing as directed by command.
- Must maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT).
Must be proficient in assigned firearms/weapons; initial qualification and semi‑annual qualification required. - Must complete security guard training and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Must obtain and maintain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
- Must operate various electronic equipment and sensors; maintain certifications.
- Must wear the prescribed Department of Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform and maintain appearance.
- Must be able to carry and deploy riot baton, protective shield, and use non‑lethal ammunition (if necessary).
- Must wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment; may need certification for aerosol irritants.
- Must not have medical conditions preventing use of chemical protective gear.
- Must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle and possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Must meet the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment requirements.
Specialized experience:
One year of experience working with a protective organization that involved protecting property against hazards such as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life.
