We are hiring on behalf of our client, a nationally recognised multidisciplinary environmental consultancy known for its forward‑thinking approach and ongoing growth.
Ecologist or Senior Ecologist
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum
Location:
Manchester Office‑based, with flexibility to work from home 1–2 days per week
Role Type:
Full-time, Permanent
Seeking a motivated Senior Ecologist to join our growing team. If you have experience in high‑quality ecological work, and a desire to develop your career, we’d love to hear from you.

In‑house and external training, including support with specialist software.
Qualifications & Experience- BSc in Ecology or a related discipline
- MSc in an environmental field (or equivalent experience)
- Associate membership of CIEEM, ideally working toward Full membership
- Experience and/or licences appropriate to senior-level ecological work
- Lead and support team members in day‑to‑day ecological work
- Manage smaller elements of team operations and project delivery
- Plan and resource ecological surveys
- Undertake a full range of ecological and protected species surveys, including more specialist assessments
- Produce high‑quality reports, including complex and specialist reports
- Support ongoing business development activities
- Liaise confidently with clients, including on larger or more detailed projects
- Begin mentoring junior staff and supporting their development
- Expertise in PEA/UK Habitat Survey, including complex or rarer habitat types
- Competence across a full range of protected species surveys
- Ability to undertake specialist surveys within your discipline
- Proficient in your chosen specialism
- Hold relevant protected species licences (e.g., Basic GCN, Dormouse, specialist licences such as Bat)
- Strong understanding of EU/UK wildlife legislation and planning policy
- Awareness and application of ecological industry standards
- Experience across a range of sectors, with proficiency in one or two (e.g., Quarry, Rail, Road, Energy, Industrial)
- Proficient in data collation, interpretation, and analysis
- Strong mapping/GIS skills (or similar)
- Developing capability in management and wider professional skills
