Nutritionist – Remote Position Position Summary

Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc., a family‑owned company with a proud legacy of producing high‑quality pet food since the 1940s, is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Nutritionist. This role is vital to our mission of delivering high‑quality, results‑driven pet food that pet owners trust and pets love. • Develop and formulate AAFCO‑ and state‑compliant recipes that are nutritious, safe, and appealing to pets.
• Uphold and enhance our long‑standing commitment to producing safe, healthy, and delicious pet food.
• Serve in a strategic leadership capacity reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
• Ensure all recipes meet internal quality standards and product specifications.
• Stay current with scientific and technical advancements in companion animal nutrition.
• Evaluate emerging ingredients, nutritional technologies, and scientific advancements to inform product development and long‑term innovation.
• Maintain accurate documentation to support product label compliance, feeding guidelines, nutritional adequacy statements, and marketing claims.
• Participate in feeding trials and related research, ensuring data collection, analysis and application of findings to improved program outcomes.
• Collaborate with Purchasing and Quality Assurance teams to ensure ingredient quality and nutritional integrity.
• Support the Consumer Service team by providing expert, professional responses to customer inquiries.
• Partner with Marketing and Sales teams to share nutritional insights that support product positioning and sales growth.
• Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with third‑party nutrition partners, research organizations, vendors, and other subject matter experts to support program success.
• Drive long term innovation by identifying opportunities, and strategic priorities related to nutrition programs and aligning with organizational objectives.
• Travel up to 10% as needed for business purposes.

• Master of Science in Animal Nutrition (Companion Animal Nutrition strongly preferred).
• Deep understanding of canine and feline nutrition and related scientific disciplines.
• Ability to operate with a high level of autonomy, including authority to develop, recommend and execute strategic initiatives.
• Proven experience in developing pet food formulations.
• Familiarity with dry food manufacturing processes and operations.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Self‑motivated, collaborative, and capable of working independently.
