Overview
Grade UE08: £50,253 to £61,759 per annum. Bioresearch and Veterinary Services / CSG. Full time: 35 hours per week. Open ended: permanent.
The University of Edinburgh invites an energetic and experienced manager for the core service that provides researchers with the generation of transgenic and genetically modified model organisms. The role focuses on driving technology development and selecting the most appropriate methodologies to achieve scientific objectives. The successful candidate will have proven ability to produce research models in rodent species and will develop and implement novel genome engineering techniques.
There are ongoing opportunities to work with mouse, rat, and non-murine species such as aquatic and amphibian models, and to contribute to delivery methods and improvements in transgenic technology through collaboration with academic research groups.
The post is full-time (35 hours per week) with openness to non-contractual hybrid working (remote and on-campus).
Salary: £50,253 to £61,759 per annum.
Responsibilities- Manage a small team of specialist practitioners to ensure effective and efficient delivery of projects through day-to-day operations.
- Collaborate with researchers to develop and plan genome engineering projects, employing the newest and most efficient approaches.
- Manage a budget of circa £250k per year to generate 30+ novel transgenic models, along with rederivation and cryopreservation of 100+ strains per year.
- Ensure compliance in all aspects under UK legislative framework. Coordinate supply chain, health and safety, and general administrative support with the department.
- Serve as the principal contact with research partners using the service; work with stakeholders in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Degree level (essential) or above (desirable) in molecular biology or related field.
- Hold, or have held, a UK Home Office Procedural Personal Licence.
- Relevant experience in producing transgenic animal models.
- Experience (essential) or management experience (desirable) of working in a transgenic core service team.
- A demonstrated ability to apply and/or develop cutting-edge genome engineering methods.
