The Role
We are seeking a Senior Biologist/Project Manager to support our growing team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys navigating the regulatory landscape, managing technical and permitting projects, and mentoring junior staff. You’ll work on diverse projects across sectors such as utilities, energy, water, and transportation.
How We CollaborateThis role may offer a hybrid work setup, blending time in the office with remote work as business needs evolve. We enjoy coming together in person to collaborate, connect with teammates, and partner with clients, and may prioritize candidates who live within 50 miles of a Rincon office. Eligible office locations for this role include Sacramento, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Carlsbad, and San Diego.
WhatYou’ll Do
Technical Work
- Prepare and oversee high‑quality deliverables, including:
- Biological Resource Assessments (BRA)
- CEQA/NEPA biological sections
- Aquatic resource delineations and permit applications
- Restoration plans
- Conduct or manage fieldwork, such as wetland delineations, special‑status species surveys, and restoration projects.
- Interpret and apply relevant local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, ESA, CESA, Coastal Act).
- Collaborate with clients, agencies, and technical teams to ensure efficient project execution.
Project Management
- Lead moderate‑size biological assessment and permitting projects or major components of larger efforts.
- Oversee scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Serve as primary point of contact with clients and regulatory agencies.
- Provide mentorship and direction to team members and subcontractors.
- Uphold QA/QC processes and ensure technical excellence across all work products.
Business Development
- Participate in client outreach, proposal preparation, and cost/schedule development.
- Help identify opportunities to grow Rincon’s regional project portfolio and/or engage with one of our key market sector teams.
- B.S. or M.S. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field.
- 6–10+ years of highly relevant experience, with progressive responsibility across technical work, permitting, and client management.
- Expertise in Biological Resource Assessments (CEQA and/or NEPA).
- Proficiency with following disciplines:
- Regulatory permitting and compliance
- Botanical and/or wildlife species surveys
- Aquatic resource delineations
- Restoration implementation oversight and habitat management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead client and agency interactions.
- Prior experience in environmental consulting.
- Expertise in biological permitting and agency coordination.
The base salary range for this full‑time position is $88,000–$140,000, plus a generous benefits program. Salary ranges are based on the market median of similar jobs, according to third‑party salary benchmark surveys. Base pay is determined based on internal equity and a candidate’s job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
