The mission of the Neural Dynamics division of the Allen Institute is to answer fundamental questions about brain function. Specifically, how does our brain build our understanding of the complex world around us to guide the flexible behaviors that address our biological needs? The Neural Dynamics division of the Allen Institute is seeking a Scientific Project and Alliance Manager
. We are looking for a team player to drive ground-breaking systems neuroscience projects in collaboration with partners across the world. This leader will use strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to navigate challenging group dynamics and work effectively across scientific, technical, and business interfaces. The Scientific Project and Alliance Manager will provide the operational structure necessary for a multi-disciplinary, international team to make discoveries based on mapping brain-wide neural circuits using cutting-edge optical imaging and neurophysiology.

• Drive, coordinate, and support the scientific goals of AIND projects
• Create, maintain, and disseminate project deliverables and timelines, using project management best practices and tools
• Ensure the successful execution of project deliverables by working with cross-functional teams through planning and execution phases
• Work with Project Coordinators to support the scientific and dissemination goals of the projects
• Provide an efficient and nimble collaborative environment to manage internal and external project team communication and collaboration
• Ensure fiscal management of the project
• Organize internal and external project reviews
• Develop applications for external funding
• Facilitate efficient communication between scientific and administrative groups
• Work with the Scientific Program team to develop project management best practices

• PhD in biological sciences, with a strong preference towards neuroscience domain knowledge; or an equivalent combination of degree and experience
• 1 year of project management experience in a scientific or technical environment

• PhD degree in biology, neuroscience, biomedical science, or equivalent combination of degree and experience
• 5+ years of experience in project management, beyond an academic laboratory/postdoctoral setting
• Formal project management training and/or PMP certification
• Experience navigating complex group dynamics, and working with scientific, engineering and administrative stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to multitask amongst multiple projects simultaneously
• Advanced ability to translate scientific and technical subject matter into concise, clear communications that are understood by technical and non-technical leaders and constituents
• Experience with competitive external funding applications (federal and private) including familiarity with the budget process and relevant compliance and post-award reporting requirements

• Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment; repetitive motion with lab equipment

• This role is currently working onsite and is expected to work onsite for the majority of working hours. The primary work location for this role is 615 Westlake Ave N., with flexibility to work remotely on a limited basis. We are a Washington State employer; any remote work must be performed in Washington State.
