Job descriptionWe are hiring an Analysis Officer that will be based in our Somerset West office. The candidate is to start as soon as possible based in our Somerset West office. The position entails interpreting analysis results of sampling performed on organic products to determine the compliance with the requirements of different organic certification schemes. Initial training will be focussed on the National Organic Program and the EU 2018/848 organic standard.
Yourtasks
- Interpret analysis results
- Check the admissibility of results
- Evaluate substance(s) detected on the product (towards its characteristics, the operator activity and certification history, the scheme requirements, the evaluation performed…) to determine the compliance with requirements, or preliminary to set-up hypothesis to confirm
- Issue interpretation conclusion regarding extent and origin of substance detected, related non-compliance, eventual additional action (evaluation, precautionary measure…)
- Coordinate actions related to interpretation
- Coordinate with the relevant internal staff in charge of evaluation and certification on the action to perform
- Maintain communication with authorities and other certification bodies
- Answer notifications received about substance detected in collaboration with relevant internal staff
- Coordinate with relevant internal staff the preparation of the report/information requested by authorities
- Follow-up laboratories of the area
- Be technical day to day point of contact
- Define lists of substances to analyse according to product
- Regular evaluation of the service performed and issue annual quality evaluation report
- Provide support to internal staff
- Provide advice, recommendation, and eventual appropriate tool to support evaluation staff on risk assessment per product and area, sampling method to apply, sampling plan to perform, dedicated evaluation to perform
- Give advice and recommendation to certification staff on certification decision, operator request and communication related to analysis result
- Provide technical information about substance detected and/or to analyse
- Provide technical training about sampling, substance, analysis, and laboratory
- Record all analysis results received of samples processed by the laboratories
- Handle any irregularities identified on analysis reports received
Education
: BSc in Chemistry, BAgric, or relevant tertiary qualification. Additional courses completed like AVCASA would be beneficial.
Language
:
Excellent English and Afrikaans spoken and written competency.
Experience
:
Any experience in the agricultural sector, in particular organic/sustainable, would be beneficial as well as experience in laboratory work involving MRL’s.

Remuneration
:
Market related salary, dependent on experience and qualifications
Type of contract
:
Permanent (6-month probation)
