Overview
The Field Application Engineer (FAE) will provide technical, hands‑on expertise to support all business opportunities for Phoenix Contact products and applications within the automation, control and networking portfolio used in the industrial automation and electronics industry. The FAE will collaborate with regional sales managers, account managers, sales engineers, field application engineering teams, and other internal groups to use a consultative approach with customers, support their individual needs, expand market penetration, and achieve sales targets.
This role is an individual contributor position with no formal people‑management responsibilities. The FAE is responsible for the majority of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Northern Louisiana, and Memphis.
Responsibilities- Increase annual sales revenue across all products in the automation, control, and networking portfolio at customer accounts.
- Coordinate with the local Phoenix Contact sales team on joint sales activities, trainings, and action plans to advance sales of these products.
- Act as the local technical representative and support the sales team on power‑related technical matters.
- Serve as the regional marketing specialist, developing sales tools, collateral, and driving campaigns.
- Be the "voice of the customer" and provide insights for product line expansion or new focus industries.
- Drive value‑added applications and engineered solutions.
- Meet or exceed territory sales quotas as set by the RSM or Vice President of Field Sales.
- Maintain proficiency in base selling skills and use them to build strong customer relationships.
- Build and maintain relationships with potential clients, partners, and stakeholders to facilitate new business.
- Maintain and update CRM systems with accurate client information, using it as a communication, reporting, measurement, and tracking tool.
- Communicate effectively with the Phoenix Contact team, both verbally and in writing.
- Use all sales tools provided to support local markets efficiently.
- Engage in industry‑related associations.
- Utilize all resources and sales tools to maximize productivity and customer delight.
- Pursue personal development through a skill‑building program set by the RSM, Director of Sales, or the Training Department.
- Demonstrate technical competence on all products/solutions within the area of focus.
- Provide reports to the RSM as required.
- Deliver presentations and hands‑on demonstrations of Phoenix Contact automation, control, and networking products and applications for sales purposes.
- Maintain working knowledge of all Phoenix Contact automation, control, and networking products/solutions.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Four‑year degree required; engineering degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years sales or marketing experience with automation and industrial control products.
- Ability to work independently from a home office and communicate effectively with colleagues with limited supervision.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to learn and adapt quickly.
- Must be able to travel by airplane.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel by automobile for up to six hours at a time.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Must be able to travel overnight 40% or more, or as dictated by the assigned territory.
- Comply with company dress code guidelines.
- Maintain punctuality and regular, on‑time attendance.
