The College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO) is looking to fill the position of Communications Specialist

We are the regulatory body for Registered Dental Hygienists (RDHs) in Ontario. CDHO is not a school or an organization that advocates on behalf of RDHs. CDHO regulates and protects the public by:
- setting the requirements for becoming an RDH so that only qualified individuals are allowed to practise and use the title “Registered Dental Hygienist”;
- maintaining an up-to-date feature on its website, known as the public register, to help clients check if their Dental Hygienist is registered and in good standing;
- developing and enforcing standards and guidance for practice;
- running a Quality Assurance Program that helps RDHs keep their knowledge and skills up to date; and
- receiving and investigating complaints about RDHs and taking disciplinary action when necessary.
- Salary range: $86,000 – $96,000

The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies and tactics that support CDHO in communicating to RDHs, the public and partners.
Responsibilities Communication materials- Create and edit content for all CDHO platforms and publications.
- Lead the design of various documents using Adobe Creative Suite or other software.
- Provide copyediting and design support to other departments as required.
- Work with all departments to update the website, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Liaise with the external web vendor and CDHO’s IT team on website issues as needed.
- Work with all departments to manage the corporate communications calendar.
- Lead the production of The De-Brief, CDHO’s e-newsletter.
- Review and format all e-communications.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date lists of RDHs and partners.
- Manage CDHO’s social media presence by creating and designing compelling content.
- Develop the quarterly social media content calendar.
- Monitor channels and flag for the Director any comments/discussions that may require response.
- Lead the production of CDHO Connect, the staff e-newsletter, by writing content, coordinating departments’ submissions, designing the issue and distributing to staff.
- Monitor web, email and social media analytics and pitch areas for improvement.
- Provide support to the Director in planning and identifying process and technology improvements.
- Manage communication suppliers as needed.
- Post-secondary degree in communications, marketing or related discipline.
- At least 5–7 years’ experience in a communications role.
- Experience in the not-for-profit, regulatory, public or healthcare sectors an asset.
- Strong creative skills, with an eye for design, storytelling and innovative problem solving.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision.
- Well-developed critical thinking and judgement skills.
- Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work with people across the organization.
- Flexible, resilient and resourceful, and able to manage shifting priorities.
- Expert knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Linked In), Word Press, Adobe Creative Suite (or similar platforms) and email marketing platforms.
- Fluency in French is an asset.
- Full-time, hybrid role that consists of remote work and in-office attendance as required.
- Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 pursuant to the Government of Canada’s guidelines; OR have a valid Human Rights Code-based exemption from COVID-19 vaccination and provide sufficient documents establishing the exemption.
- Occasional requirement for out-of-regular-hour attendance at meetings or functions.
