Principal Information Analyst – Forecasting & Planning

National Headquarters, Edinburgh

12 month fixed term (Maternity cover) - secondment considered)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the Business Intelligence team based in National Headquarters.

The BI team is responsible for all routine and ad hoc performance reporting. This includes production of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports covering all aspects of performance such as operational, clinical, PTS and sickness absence. These routine reports are produced for SAS Executive, Board, Senior Managers and the Scottish Government. Provision of this analysis applies to the whole system, from 999 calls to outcomes linked with other areas of healthcare.

We are looking for a Principal Information Analyst to lead our Forecasting & Planning team. This post will be responsible for providing high quality data analysis and intelligence to a range of areas to improve service delivery. With a focus on forecasting, we are looking for an analyst who can help support our business-as-usual capabilities while looking for new and innovative ways in which we can help the Scottish Ambulance Service plan for the future through the use of data.

Leading a small team, you’ll liaise closely with a wide range of stakeholders such as Executive Team Members, Regional Directors, Ambulance Control Centre staff, and the Scottish Government. This post will help ensure the regular provision of essential data to inform decision making throughout the service.

This is a varied role and the postholder will need to be flexible and able to cope with periods of pressure and competing demands. Effective communication with analytical and non-analytical colleagues, along with effective project scoping skills and a willingness to support and collaborate with others are key. Consistent attention to detail and good organisational skills are essential.

The postholder will need to be highly numerate and have experience of analytical techniques and working with complex datasets. Full training in the source database systems will be given, and once trained this post will be expected to independently interrogate data for quality and completeness, complete analysis using the appropriate tools, and visualise the results in an appropriate way for the intended audience.

Experience or knowledge of using the following software would be desirable:

  • SQL
  • R/R Studio
  • Data Visualisation tools such as Power BI
  • Forecasting/statistical modelling methodologies

Although this post is based within NHQ, the location is flexible and will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate. This could include home working, office working, or a hybrid of the two.
