OverviewPet Smart’s Process Leader (Retail Operations Manager) has shared responsibility to drive operational excellence in our stores while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role is accountable for merchandising and inventory management, pet care operations, opening and/or closing the store, leading associates, financial outcomes and maintaining a safe and organized environment.

- People Leadership:
Participates in employment decisions such as recruiting, interviewing, and coaching; facilitates the associate experience and development; onboarding, associate reviews, labor management, mentoring, succession planning, coaching for accountability; address and administer associate complaints and grievances; prioritize, delegate, and validate daily tasks; lead and coach associates on operational processes to ensure pets in our care are safe and healthy; coordinate staffing coverage for process activities;
validate completion of operational messages and engagement video compliance; effectively communicate company information and priorities to associates; recognize and celebrate associates driving engagement. - Overall Store
Experience:
Oversight for the healthcare of store owned pets, pet care maintenance, receiving, commitment standards for habitats, care for sick store-owned pets; oversight of inventory management and pricing processes; ensure inventory accuracy, receiving, stocking, counts, rotations, and planner/planogram sets; evaluate operations and seek opportunities to improve experiences and services; maintain vendor relationships, backroom standards, and communication boards; oversee Buy Online and Pick Up In Store and Ship From Store programs;
identify sales trends and make merchandising decisions; maintain store standards and lead a culture of empowerment; ensure compliance with Policies & Procedures and Code of Ethics; ensure a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents; take action and report sick/injured pets; support opening and closing procedures and respond to pet parent concerns. - Expense Management:
Identify opportunities to grow the business and hold associates accountable for store P&L targets; analyze inventory management reporting for trends and root causes; manage expenses such as labor and supplies; leverage Home Office resources for store-related work orders and purchasing. - Qualifications:
3+ years of retail leadership or experience in a customer-focused environment; full-time availability with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; proficiency in computer applications; strong written and verbal communication; ability to react under pressure and maintain composure; strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in maintaining a visually appealing store layout.
- Typically oversees up to three lead associates and up to forty non-leader associates; responsible for employment decisions and associate development.
- Stand, walk, climb a ladder, and use hands to handle, feel, write; ability to reach with hands and arms; may require stoop, kneel, crouch; reasonable accommodations available.
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently; team lift and/or move more than 100 pounds occasionally; vision abilities including depth perception.
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments with pet hair, moderate to high noise levels, exposure to live animals and handling.
