Research Analyst, Research Assistant/Associate, Market Research, Public Health
Treatment Action Group (TAG) is seeking a Research Intern to support our work advancing innovative financing strategies to accelerate tuberculosis (TB) research, development, and equitable access to lifesaving tools. This position would work closely with the Senior TB Project Associate.
In collaboration with the Senior TB Project Associate, the Research Intern will develop a research proposal and conduct research related to the relationship between the international financial architecture and investment and outcomes in TB. The final output of the project may include: a white paper, a viewpoint article in an academic journal, or an op-ed in a high-impact publication. The research topic will be developed in collaboration with the TB team based on intern skills and interest.
Potential topics include:
- Exploring possible TB program funding increases associated with increased tax revenue following the United Nations (UN) Tax Convention;
- Examining the possible impact of a sovereign debt relief campaign (e.g., Heavily Indebted Poor Countries 2.0) on fiscal liquidity to invest in TB programs;
- Analyzing historical TB and health financing trends for existing viable solutions to build economic stability and reduce reliance on debt for investment in TB programs, health, and development; or
- A historical analysis of impact of increased domestic tax revenue on investment in TB and TB outcomes.
Research will inform policy recommendations and strategic action to advance TAG’s mission to expand and accelerate vital research and strengthen community engagement to help end the TB, HIV, and HCV pandemics.

KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Conduct research and produce written analysis to advance TAG’s work on innovative financing for TB and HIV research and programs;
- Contribute to TAG’s advocacy related to the UN Tax Convention and the use of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) to expand funding for TB and HIV;
- Develop materials to support training and engagement with Community Advisory Boards (CABs), civil society partners, and TB-affected communities on TB financing; and
- Help translate research into advocacy by preparing presentations and other materials to support community engagement and policy influence.
Representative knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to successfully perform this job include:
- Strong research skills, willingness to learn new and complex subject matter, and ability to translate research for community audience;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail;
- Self-starter with ability to work semi-independently;
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills;
- Demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment where commitment to diversity based on race, ethnic origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, and physical ability is an important institutional value;
- Knowledge of international health programs or policy making a plus;
- Quantitative analysis skills (i.e., working familiarity with, Excel, R, Stata, Python, etc.) a plus;
- Familiarity with multilateral banks and UN systems a plus;
- Working knowledge of tuberculosis, HIV, or other infectious diseases; and
- Currently enrolled in a Masters program, through 2026.
This is a part-time (minimum 20 hours per week) flexible, hybrid role located in New York, NY, with remote work acceptable, for a Research Internship (unpaid). For applicants based in New York City, there is an opportunity to work in TAG’s NYC office 2-3 times per week. For applicants based in NYC, TAG can offer subsidized public transit opportunities.
