What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking Year‑Round R&D Undergraduate Interns to join the DOE Science Undergrad Laboratory Intern (SULI) or Community College Internships (CCI) Program.
On any given day, depending on the project assignment and qualifications, interns may:
- Be responsible for setting up and running lab experiments
- Creating software programs to analyze data
- Developing computational models and algorithms
- Nanophotonics and Optical Nanomaterials
- In‑Situ Characterization and Nanomechanics
- Soft, Biological and Composite Nanomaterials
- Quantum Materials Systems
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary RangeAt Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. QualificationsWe Require
- Currently attending and enrolled full‑time in an accredited undergraduate program
- Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S.
Note:
If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.
- Applied and Selected by the DOE, Office of Science, WDTS Program as a SULI/CCI intern.

About Our TeamAt the Sandia New Mexico campus, CCI interns are placed in a variety of topical areas in association with the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT). CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center operating as a national user facility dedicated to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials. Through its core facility in Albuquerque and gateway facility at Los Alamos, CINT provides users from academia, industry, and government labs, open access to the tools and expertise needed to explore the continuum from scientific discovery to the integration of nanostructures into the micro‑ and macro world.
