Research Scientist
The Fairbanks Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station is seeking an agricultural research technician for the summer of 2026. This is a seasonal position located in Delta Junction that runs from late April through September (Flexible). This position supports the day-to-day operations and maintenance of agricultural research plots by working closely with AFES staff and research faculty. These are full-time outdoor positions working 40‑hour weeks Monday through Friday in all weather conditions including sun/heat, rain, wind, smoke and snow.
To thrive in this role the applicant must have experience working in a fast‑paced outdoor environment and demonstrate the skills necessary to successfully perform the job duties as described. The applicant should demonstrate self‑motivation and individual initiative. They should have the ability to shift focus quickly and react to unforeseen events. They should enjoy working in a physically demanding, outdoor environment in different elements such as rain, cold, heat, and potentially annoying insects.
They should be friendly and eager to interact with the public and co‑workers. They should be able to effectively communicate to staff about any safety issues that involve staff. They should be able to maintain a positive attitude and also be able to communicate effectively if a problem or question arises.
- Must possess a valid Alaska driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.
- Must have reliable personal transportation (vehicle).
- Must demonstrate ability to maintain productivity both independently and as a member of a team.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
This position is located in Delta Junction, Alaska. This is a full‑time, non‑exempt temporary staff position. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 76, based on education and experience.
