The Research Excellence and Impact Team within the University’s Research and Impact Services support researchers to identify, evidence and enhance the impact of their research.

Research impact is defined as an effect on, change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health, the environment or quality of life, beyond academia.

We are looking for three postgraduate level Casual Administrative Assistants to assist with the identification, collation, recording evidence of and generating of impact opportunities of University of Bath research impact.

The activities this might include:

  • Carrying out online searches of evidence of impact in the grey literature (Primary role)
  • Summarising and organising evidence from external sources in a clear and structured way
  • Interviewing key stakeholders
  • Evaluating research impact activities and/or projects
  • Reviewing existing research information systems such as PURE, Research Fish, Overton and Altmetrics to identify and track research impact

The job will involve working with the Research Impact Team; meeting with researchers to gain an understanding of their research insights what impacts they hope to achieve / have achieved to date; identifying potential sources of evidence of impact including key stakeholders; undertaking online searches that are likely to lead to evidence of impact; actively identifying information from external sources to enrich our existing data;

and manually populating Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PURE to record findings.

This job will require a self‑motivated individual with great attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and IT proficiency. Applicants should also demonstrate strong analytical skills, confidence in summarising evidence, and the ability to communicate findings clearly to colleagues and researchers. Familiarity with the research environment, previous experience of conducting desk‑based research (i.e. literature reviews, rapid reviews, online information searching, grey literature) and use of research information systems such as Altmetrics and PURE is desirable.

Knowledge and experience of conducting evaluations together with experience and skills in qualitative and quantitative data collection methods are also desirable. Training and induction will be provided and tailored to applicants’ experience and development needs, with ongoing support from the Research Impact Team.

Hours required: 7 hours to up to 14 hours per week for up to 4 months; the work pattern to be agreed with the successful candidate. These short-term positions can run for up to four months period between March 2026 and July 2026.

Location: Level 3, East Building/working from home
