At Helmholtz Munich, we develop groundbreaking solutions for a healthier society in a rapidly changing world. We believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation. Through strong partnerships, we accelerate the transfer of new ideas from the lab to real-life applications, improving lives.
The Horvath Lab at the
Institute of AI for Health (AIH)
aims to build large deep learning models for digital pathology to resolve single cell heterogeneity and identify subtle cellular differences in cancers. The method is used to identify cancer clones in melanoma cases and support clinical decisions with deep molecular analysis of the detected tumor clones. The postdoc (f/m/x) will build robust single cell-based foundation models on digital pathology images and will combine AI with our latest Deep Visual Proteomics workflow.
- Applying and further developing single cell segmentation methods
- Supervising a small team of PhD and MSc students
- Developing new foundations of augmentations for digital pathology
- Potentially developing multi-scale AI models for cancer patient stratification combining LLMs, molecular measurements, and multi-scale imaging.
Your profile
- PhD in computer science, mathematics, physics, bio-/medical informatics or related fields, specializing in image analysis or machine learning, proficiency in deep learning techniques (CNN, VIT, diffusion, GAN)
- Good understanding of the mathematical foundations of machine learning
- Mastering python and related AI software technologies
- Proficiency in English
- Experience in parallel training of large DL models is a plus
While the position will be a team effort, it is a multicenter project and thus independence and capability to remotely work with the other half of the team located in Szeged will often be required.
If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years but may be extended under certain circumstances.
Managing Director Mike Frieser: „We believe that diversity is the key to groundbreaking research and innovative solutions. Our flexible working models and remote options create a supportive environment for balancing work and family life. For us, contributing to a healthier society in such an inspiring workplace is truly meaningful.“
