Join us to learn about soil research and the development work on soil indicators. We offer varied and interesting work tasks as part of an international research group.
In this position, you will learn about soil research and the development of soil indicators as part of an international research group. Your duties will include preparing soil samples, collecting and pre-processing soil samples, and processing research data. In addition, you will participate in the organization of project events and support project communications. The task includes field work, which means occasional physical work and working outdoors in variable weather conditions.
The position is ideal for students or graduates of environmental science, forestry, agricultural science, or geoscience who are interested in soil research and experimental work.
Your duties will include preparing for soil sampling campaign, participating in sampling, pre-processing samples, organizing data, and performing statistical analysis of results. Your duties will also include illustrating the research results, compiling research literature, and participating in reporting the results. In addition, you will participate in the preparation of stakeholder cooperation for the research project and in tasks related to the organization of project event, such as communication, event implementation, documentation, and compilation of materials.
Remote work is only possible to a limited extent, depending on the task.
We expect applicants to have at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., forestry, environmental science, biology, geoscience, or statistics) and an interest in processing geographic information and other research data, measurement methods, and familiarizing themselves with research literature. The job requires initiative, the ability to work independently and in a team, willingness to travel in Southern Finland (and a driver’s license), systematic approach, and IT skills (e.g., R, Python).
The ability to communicate in English is also required. Previous experience in research work, applying different measurement methods, and laboratory work, knowledge of forest and mire plant species, Finnish language skills, and an interest in further studies as part of a broad-based research group are considered an advantage. The analysed data can be used in your thesis/postgraduate studies.
