The Ecology Co‑op, based in the South East of England with offices in West Sussex and Kent, specialises in ecological surveys for both public and private sectors. Our work focuses on assessing the impact of developments on protected species and habitats to aid in the planning process. The company offers a comprehensive service, from initial consultations to the implementation of mitigation measures such as habitat management and acting as 'Ecological Clerk of Works.'

Known for our reliability and effectiveness, we have earned a strong reputation with planning authorities and statutory consultees. Due to growing demand, we are experiencing a period of rapid expansion.

Role Description

Our Senior Ecologists oversee and undertake a range of ecological surveys and prepare detailed ecological reports. The role involves designing and implementing mitigation strategies, including managing protected species licences and habitat management plans. Collaboration with clients, local planning authorities, and teams will also be integral, as will supervising field work activities and providing expert guidance. This is a full‑time hybrid role primarily based in the Southeast, with flexibility for remote work.

Qualifications
  • Strong expertise in a range of disciplines, or a high‑level specialism in a particular field, such as bats or botany.
  • Skilled in report writing and producing Ecological Impact Assessments.
  • Proven experience in field work, including conducting a range of ecological surveys.
  • A good understanding of habitats and good habitat design and management.
  • Ability to obtain and manage protected species licences.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping tools and ecological software is advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
