** Position Summary** :

The Marsh Bird Technician position will support the implementation and monitoring of saltmarsh habitat restoration under the Marshes for Tomorrow initiative. This position is a seasonal, full-time role working closely alongside Audubon Mid-Atlantic’s Coastal Program Manager and Coastal Avian Biologist. The primary responsibility will be to survey bird and plant communities across salt marshes of Maryland’s Lower, Eastern Shore.

May 11, 2026 to August 10, 2026

* Hours:

40 hours per week, flexible to work early mornings, weekend days and holiday shifts as needed.

This role is classified as remote located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, specifically Dames Quarter, Marion Station, and other sites as assigned in Dorchester, Somerset, and Worcester counties.

Job Description
**** Essential Functions
*** Conduct point count surveys for birds in salt marsh habitat.
* Conduct nest searching surveys for breeding birds in salt marsh habitat.
* Conduct vegetation surveys in salt marsh habitat.
* Deploy Autonomous Recording Units (ARU) in salt marsh habitat.
* Daily and weekly data entry into online database and assist with data quality checks.
* Use and maintain large equipment including 4x4 vehicles, trailers, and motorized boats.
* Coordinate monitoring efforts with project partners and landowners.
* Assist with collecting and contributing to Marshes for Tomorrow media content through photos, videos, and brief written content, such as field activity summaries.
* Additional duties may be assigned to support all aspects of the Coastal Program.
* Maintain and fosters culture of safety.
* Collaborate with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.

** Qualifications and

Experience:

**
* B. S. degree or completing coursework in active pursuit of a degree in biology, wildlife management, or related field.
* Experience with bird identification or monitoring.
* Experience with bird point count surveys is preferred but not required.
* Ability to work in an organized fashion, pay attention to detail, take initiative, and problem-solve in the field as part of a small, collaborative team.
* Ability to follow scientific protocols.
* Must have valid driver's license and safe driving record (an Audubon vehicle will be provided for travel between field sites).
* Experience of handling small, motorized boats is preferred but not required.
* Flexible approach to work, as early mornings, regular weekend and holiday shifts are required, as well as frequent schedule changes based on site needs, tidal restrictions, and weather conditions.
* Willingness to traverse for long distances in muddy, uneven terrain, and be able to maneuver with at least 40 lbs.
