Job Summary:
To provide a clean and safe environment for the university community. The duties and responsibilities include the maintenance of an assigned section on a daily basis (section assigned by the grounds supervisor), in addition to seasonal requirements.
This position is assigned to first shift (6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) and requires on-call availability during the winter season for snow removal. The ideal candidate will operate light-duty tractors and ride-on zero-turn mowers; operational knowledge is strongly preferred but not required.
Responsibilities- Daily Operations: Operate equipment used in the performance of assigned duties including four-wheel drive pick-up truck, large and small tractors (with attachments), and power tools including but not limited to lawnmowers, line trimmers, blowers, etc.
- Use hand and power tools in the performance of assigned duties or preventive maintenance of the equipment and equipment attachments used on the job.
- Clean streets, curbs, sidewalks, outside steps, ramps and entrances; sweep, collect and dispose of debris and refuse as necessary.
- Perform, as directed, repair and maintenance of streets, secondary roads, parking areas, sidewalks and other paved areas, including catch basins.
- Warm Weather: Perform maintenance of trees, shrubs, ground covers, flowers, and vines; including planting, transplanting, seed collecting, cultivating, fertilizing, watering, and pruning.
- Maintenance of campus lawns, as directed; including sodding, seeding, and weed control.
- Cold Weather: Drive and operate a tractor to remove snow and ice from building entrances, steps, walks, roads, parking areas and other areas as directed.
- Required to be on call during the winter season for snow and ice removal operations.
- Move furniture, equipment, boxes, books, supplies, etc. as required.
- Perform semi-skilled and unskilled labor while assisting tradesmen in the performance of their duties, including the moving of construction materials as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Grounds supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent. (Verification will be conducted by Human Resources).
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Experience to use and operate hand and power tools.
- Ability and willingness to work as directed.
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
- Must be mobile, able to perform heavy lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying of equipment and supplies as pertains to the performance of Grounds Maintenance duties.
- Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Ability to perform heavy labor as in snow shoveling.
- Comply with local, state, and federal regulations as applicable to job duties.
Monday - Friday, 6:00 A.M.
- 2:00 P.M. The hours may vary depending on departmental needs and winter weather events, including snow removal on an on-call basis.
Setting:
Maintenance Laborer is an on campus position, not eligible for Hybrid or Remote work.
This position requires a background check.
Salary$18.62 / Hour
