Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but our office will move to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026. You will predominantly work from home. A full driving licence (with less than 6 points) is essential.
Work type: Permanent, 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday).
About the RoleWe have a unique opportunity for a Woodland and Countryside Advisor to support the Lead Woodland and Countryside Advisor at Yorkshire Water. In this role, you will manage an FSC certified woodland estate spread across Yorkshire, ensure compliance with statutory requirements, and contribute to environmental conservation initiatives including Net Zero targets and Nature Recovery objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Manage compliance, including statutory plant health notices and tree safety across the woodland estate.
- Maintain FSC certification through audits and adherence to UKWAS standards.
- Develop and implement forest plans and management plans in-house.
- Engage with stakeholders, including the Forestry Commission, Natural England, White Rose Forest, and local authorities.
- Support AMP 8 delivery, including WINEP projects and capital project reporting related to performance commitments.
- Develop and support partnership projects aligned with regional Nature Recovery and National Forest objectives.
- Pursue grant opportunities and optimize income generation via commercial forestry operations.
- Actively contribute towards company Net Zero targets through woodland creation projects.
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (e.g. arboriculture, forestry).
- Over five years of practical experience in forestry, arboriculture, or countryside/environmental management.
- A strong understanding of forestry, arboriculture, nature conservation and countryside issues.
- Familiarity with health and safety systems (risk assessments, FISA guidelines, and lone working systems).
- Competence in IT and the MS Office suite of applications.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional NPTC qualifications would be considered an advantage.
