Overview
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for a 14‑week assignment on the Mother/Baby Unit.
Location & ShiftCity/State:
Norfolk, VA.
Work Shift:
Rotating.
- Travel RN – Mother/Baby
- 14‑week temporary full‑time assignment.
- Rotating shift schedule.
- On‑call required: two 12‑hour shifts per 6‑week period.
- Pay rate: $70.00 per hour.
- No benefits included with this assignment.
The Mother‑Baby Unit is a 30‑bed unit where nurses assess, support healing, and provide self‑care education to new mothers during the post‑partum stay. The unit encourages mothers to room with their babies; the RN ensures newborn assessment, cleaning, feeding, and swaddling, and educates the mother on infant care.
Education- Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or diploma in Nursing or related field required.
- Virginia or Compact Multi‑State RN license in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- Minimum two years of current Mother/Baby hospital RN experience.
- Experience with high‑risk newborns.
- Experience with magnesium drips.
- Medical, Dental, Vision plans

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a 525‑bed tertiary care facility, Level 1 trauma center, home to Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance and a nationally ranked heart program. It is also the teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School. The hospital is accredited as a Magnet institution and offers comprehensive services in heart and vascular, neurosciences, neurosurgery, urology, oncology, spine care, advanced imaging, behavioral health, maternity, and women’s health, including a state‑of‑the‑art neonatal intensive care unit.
