Work Schedule Summary
Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day with availability from 7:00 am – 5:30 pm. Opportunities for a compressed 4-day, 10-hour schedule may be available after completing initial training periods, depending on operational needs and supervisor approval. Opportunities for a hybrid telework schedule may be available if supported by operational needs. Employees with an approved hybrid telework schedule are expected to provide their own home office space, internet connection, telephone, and have the ability to work independently.

The Division of Pediatric Neurology at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Nurse to function as a member of the neurology triage team. This position is responsible for delivering professional nursing care to patients via phone or patient portal. The Clinical Nurse will utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status; implements clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms;
develops, implements and evaluates patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.

- Performs phone management with patients’ parents, chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management.
- Discusses patient and family concerns over the phone and/or via the electronic health record.
- Provides patient/family education surrounding common neurological conditions.
- Communicates adjustments in treatment plan to families.
- Formulates care plans for specific patients and documents the nursing process in patient’s record.
- Evaluates patient response to interventions and modifies plan of care as needed to achieve health care goals. Communicates adjustments or changes in treatment plans to patient/family.
- Develops and participates in educating patients and their families about care programs.
- Communicates lab & other test results to families.
- Provides medication refills.
- Assists providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity, DMV forms, school care plans, and preauthorization.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
- Works closely with triage team to provide high quality, efficient care to patients and their families.
- Keeps current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs.
- Orients and educates new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
- Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precaution, and initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
- Participates in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care.
