About the role

The clinical trials that the post holder will support include randomised controlled trials of new treatments for immunohaematology conditions and observational trials including registries. In this role you will provide clinical support for trial participants, coordinate the care and trial visits, educate patients and colleagues and carry out study assessments. You will also collect and prepare biological samples, manage trial data and administer experimental drugs or devices, while developing specialist skills in the conduct of clinical studies and immunohaematological conditions.

The position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated and hardworking nurse with an interest in research and clinical trials to join our small and friendly immunohaematology team.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit study participants (mainly in outpatients) and identify and recruit patients from the immunohaematology outpatient clinics, ensuring suitability according to study entry criteria.
  • Coordinate and arrange screening and follow‑up trial visits, and provide ongoing support and education to patients participating in trials.
  • Administer study drugs intravenously or subcutaneously during trial visits, perform venepuncture and cannulation, and carry out study assessments including height, weight, ECG, measuring vital signs.
  • Collect, label, process, store and post biological samples, ensuring compliance with research protocols and safe handling and quality assurance.
  • Collect trial data, review electronic patient records, submit trial data electronically and report adverse events in a timely manner.
  • Support new or existing studies, and collaborate closely with the Immunohaematology team and wider research nurse support.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Registered Nurse (Part 1, 8, 12 or 15 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register depending on area of practice).
  • Research nursing experience.
  • Previous experience of at least 1 year in haematology / immunohaematology.
  • Appropriate UK professional registration.
  • Previous experience working with research studies and clinical trials is preferred; full induction, training in research and mentoring will be provided.
  • Ability to transfer previously gained relevant clinical skills and knowledge to the role of the research nurse.
Working conditions and contract

This post is a 12 month fixed‑term contract (37.5 hours per week). Flexible working and some home or remote working will be considered.
